Panorama 98'
Notting Hill Carnival is held annually in London's Ladbrooke Grove. The carnival is started
off by a battle of the steel bands known as 'Panorama'. Here the best bands from around London
spend months preparing one tune that lasts for 10-15 minuets, importing players from around the
coutry and world !!! Last year many of us were able to enjoy the fantastic atmosphere of the
'Panorama'. While two of the band players were experiencing the playing side, the rest of us were
enjoying being part of the crowd which is an experience in itself !!!
Laura Eade (Tenor pan) and Sonia Judkins (Double Tenor) played with the 'London All Stars'
which is a steel band based in Brixton. 'London All Stars' import players from 'Real Steel'
(Plymouth) and our band (Portsmouth). For Laura and Sonia this was a big achievement playing
with such a steel band, not just because of the high standard but because of the sheer size of the
band !!!
For Panorama 98' 'London All Stars' played Lord Kitchners 'Symphony on the Street'.
New Carribean tunes come out in January in time for Trinidads panorama which is
held in early February in the Port of Spain.
