"Tossa de Mar"
In July 1998 Sounds of Steel went on their first tour to Spain. In all 44 people
travelled by ferry and coach to the Spanish town of Tossa de Mar. Out of the 44
people 18 of them were pan players and 5 of them were part of the percussion section,
the remaining 21 people that travelled with us were friends and family. We played at many
venues in and around Tossa De Mar including a flood lit Castle Ruin (which was a great hit
with the local people) but the evenings didn't end there, the town centre was always full
of life until 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning, which didn't agree with some of us when
breakfast was served between 7.30 and 8.00 in the morning !!!
The band rehearsed many times throughout our stay which as you can imagine was hard work in the heat and
in the early hours of the morning (9 o'clock !!!). We practiced in the hotel lobby which was underneath
all the apartments so if we had to be awake so did everyone else !!!
The Sounds of Steel tour of Spain was a great success, the two people that the band would like to thank
are Pete Beadell (Band Leader) and Hillary Small (Bass players mum), thanks to them the players and the
supporters all had a fantastic time !!!
CHEERS !!!
