The Tenor pan (ping pong) is the pan that carries the melody in most pan arrangements.
The Tenor pan has 29 notes, it has 2 octaves of C and 5 more higher notes up to high E.
Tenor pans are generally chromed and in a band of about 30 pan players you will need about
6 or 7 Tenor pans.
The Tenor pan is a single pan and has 3 "rings" of notes with the outer ring that has the lowest
notes, the middle ring that has the middle octave and the inner ring that has the highest notes.
The Tenor pan is generally in C or D and the notes are arranged in fourths if you go round
to the left and if you go round to the right then the notes are layed out in fifths.
In our band there are about 7 tenor pan players 4 of them only being introduced to Steel Pans
just before the christmas 98' holidays, and there are 3 existing players
from last years band.
Dan Sadler and Laura Eade are the heads of the Tenor section and are two of the original players
in the band, they have both been playing since the band was formed in early 1997. Natalie has
been playing in the band since September 1997 and her younger sister Claire has been playing since
the end of 1998. Since christmas 98' we have taken on about 5 new Tenor players aged between 11
and 13 and are all progressing at a very fast rate.
